Selecting your Green Power Generator

There are numerous factors at play when you go to decide on what kind of power generation is appropriate for your household. Such factors can range from where you live to the type and orientation of your home to budget. Here are few things to consider.

  1. What resources are available on your property?
  2. If planning wind or solar, does your area have enough of this resource to make it worth it (see the wind and solar maps).
  3. How much power do you need to generate?
  4. Can you offset some of your power needs without generating power?
  5. What is the setup of your home (i.e. direction, land, etc.)?
  6. Off or on grid?
  7. What’s your budget?

I’m sure you can think up any number of issues worth considering, but this is a good basis for beginning to answer the question of what kind of power generation to build.
