I am including the documents that must be filled out to get the energy tax credit in the US and Canada.
Please note that US form is a draft of the 2009 form as the final form has not yet been released. Nevertheless, looking at this form will give you some idea about what qualifies a property for the tax credits. But- as with all IRS forms, there are many undefined terms. In other words, “do I have a energy star approved windows already?” Well- I can’t answer that for you- but if you check here, the US government will try. This is the energy star homepage and it defines most of the terms on form 5695- the energy credit form that I’m putting below.
The Canadian program is a bit more extensive, including both tax incentive and grant programs. The homepage for this program can be found here. I am also including a PDF document that includes a good overview.
